This month, on december 16 th the journey that started in an early June of 1985 by Larry King will sadly come to an end. The broadcaster, who has been hosting his nightly show for the last 25 years on CNN, announced in June 2010 that the show will be over in just a few months time. Interesting how a few months earlier, the diva of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey also announced that her show will come to an end (which begun in 1986) and so the two interviewers leave a big chair to fill.
CNN`s Larry King Live is the channel`s longest running show and most watched show. The current events related interviews that King does gather an audience of over a million people for each show, being broadcasted in the whole world.
From behind a vintage RCA microphone, in a studio representing a world map made out of dots, King treats his guests as the people they are, knowing how to ask the right questions. He was criticised though that his questions are softball, but the show is nevertheless good. Sometimes, when big people of the times weren`t on the show, Larry King discussed issues like UFOs or other paranormal activities.
Why I like the show is because it has managed to create a cultural history from the American point of view and shared it with millions, which is something few other have accomplished.
