Earth Hour 2013

As most of you probably know, Earth Hour was two days ago. For those of you who don’t know what Earth Hour is, Earth Hour is an hour once every year when people are encouraged to turn off all electricity so that they raise awareness about climate and other nature issues. Many cities in the world have adopted this concept and turn off the lights of the main monuments or streets. In the city that I live in, the municipality shuts down all the lights on a few of the main streets and on the main square, and people light up rice-paper lanterns (I don’t know exactly what they are called). I think it’s really interesting to raise awareness, just that we should incorporate more green and natural living in our daily lives.

Trading electricity for natural light.

Trading electricity for natural light.

I took this photo of a man preparing to launch an air-lantern (if you know what these things are called, let me know) in the main square of Braşov. The funny thing is that later, the next day, I found one of these in my garden.

What do you think of Earth Hour? Do you celebrate it?

Keep in touch,
